The quarry is located in the Spišská Nová Ves district, in the northern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains. It is situated in a valuable and often sought-after natural environment. The currently abandoned quarry, also known as the old quarry, is formed by various rocks, including metamorphic and carboniferous rocks, as well as phyllites. It literally provides space for attractive use in the form of active recreation or relaxation in the mountains and in nature.
The proposal is largely integrated into the existing nature. Ecological, natural materials such as wood, stone, corten, and green vegetation roofs are used. It is complemented by a hotel building, which is modularly arranged and staggered, resembling the surrounding nature. It includes spaces for work or family meetings, a restaurant, and accommodation. For even greater contact with nature, the design also includes accommodation amidst the rocks, in individual units for 2 to 4-member families. At the very center of the quarry is a water area with a wellness facility, which, thanks to its mirrored effect, reflects the surrounding nature.
One of the significant landmarks, located within sight of the proposed site, is Spiš Castle. A view of it will be provided in the design in the form of a bridge at the foot of the quarry.
